“Each October, we celebrate the incredible foster and kinship caregivers who make a lasting difference in the lives of children and youth across Alberta.

“When children need a safe place to call home, foster and kinship caregivers step forward to provide more than just a place to live. They provide stability, encouragement and a sense of belonging. They show up for everyday moments like school concerts, medical appointments and milestone celebrations, offering comfort during difficult moments and helping children believe in themselves and their futures. Their compassion helps change the course of young lives and shape brighter futures.

"We know caregiving is rewarding, but it also comes with challenges. That's why we're committed to listening and acting on what we hear. Feedback from caregivers is helping guide improvements through our Caregiver Action Plan. These enhancements include a new online portal that makes it easier to access information and submit claims, increases to caregiver rates to help with day-to-day costs, and expanded financial incentives and eligibility through the Refer-A-Foster Caregiver program.

"If you've ever considered becoming a foster caregiver, there has never been a better time to take that first step. Children and youth in government care need committed, caring people just like you, willing to open their hearts and homes.

"To the foster and kinship caregiver across Alberta, thank you. The dedication and care you provide every day makes a profound difference in the lives of children, youth and families.”
