Alberta’s government is seeking input from current students and recent graduates as it considers recommendations from the Expert Panel on Post-Secondary Institution Funding and Alberta’s Competitiveness.
The focus group will provide an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and perspectives on campus learning environments, freedom of expression, institutional neutrality and student conduct processes. Participant feedback will help inform the government's consideration of recommendations in these areas and will be considered alongside feedback from post-secondary institutions, faculty representatives, elected student leaders and other interested groups.
You can express interest if you currently attend a publicly funded post-secondary institution in Alberta or graduated from one in 2016 or later.
The focus group will explore topics related to recommendations made by the Expert Panel on Post-Secondary Institution Funding and Alberta’s Competitiveness, including:
- Whether students feel able to ask questions, share different viewpoints and participate fully in classroom discussions and academic work.
- Exposure to a range of ideas and perspectives in courses, programs and campus communities.
- Confidence in institutional support for lawful expression, academic freedom, campus events and a range of viewpoints.
- Experiences with student conduct processes, including whether the processes were clear, timely, fair and appropriately supported.
The deadline to express interest in participating is Sept. 30. The focus group will take place between Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.

- Submitting the form does not guarantee participation. Depending on interest and capacity, not everyone who expresses interest will be invited to participate.
- Selected participants will receive information about the focus group and how to participate at the email address they provide.
