Alberta’s government is providing $3 million to Rising Above Ministries to expand addiction recovery capacity in Grande Prairie. The capital funding will support addiction and recovery housing infrastructure to address unmet needs in the community, strengthen the continuum of care, and help those experiencing addiction pursue recovery close to home.

Rising Above provides bed-based addiction treatment, recovery programming, and recovery housing services across several sites in Grande Prairie. Construction of a new 36-bed treatment centre for men is nearly complete and is expected to begin accepting clients this fall. The six-month bed-based recovery program is designed to support individuals throughout treatment and help them transition into long-term recovery, with a strong focus on housing, employment readiness, life skills and personal development. Rising Above is also renovating an existing facility to provide women’s-only addiction treatment services.

This investment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Alberta’s Recovery Model by increasing access and reducing barriers to addiction and mental health supports across the province. Planning is currently underway for the Grande Prairie Recovery Community, which will provide up to 50 long-term addiction treatment beds and significantly expand access to evidence-based, recovery-focused treatment services in northern Alberta.
