Human trafficking is a violation of fundamental human rights that exploits vulnerable individuals, strips them of their freedom, tears families apart and leaves devastation in its wake. Across Alberta, traffickers prey on vulnerability for profit, using manipulation, coercion, drugs and violence to control and exploit their victims.

Alberta's government is committed to dismantling trafficking networks, bringing perpetrators to justice and standing with survivors as they rebuild their lives.

Through the Combatting Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) grant, and in partnership with the Alberta Centre to End Trafficking in Persons, Alberta is providing $5.5 million to community groups to prevent human trafficking, protect at-risk people and empower survivors. This funding will improve timely access to supports for survivors and increase the capacity of funded agencies to identify and respond to human trafficking.

Of the total $5.5 million, about $2.7 million will go to currently funded organizations delivering essential, direct service to victims and survivors of human trafficking in crisis situations. In consultation with the Alberta Centre to End Trafficking in Persons, recipients were selected from among those that have been consistently funded through the CTIP program since it was created in 2024-25.

These organizations will not be required to apply this fiscal year. The new stabilization grant stream will fund organizations providing crucial supports for survivors, such as housing, that have been identified through partnership with the Alberta Centre.

Organizations that will receive funding through this grant stream are:

  • Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT)
  • Catholic Social Services
  • HER Victory Society
  • Narrow Road Society
  • REACH Edmonton
  • RESET Society of Calgary
  • Salvation Army
  • Waypoints Community Services Association

The Alberta Centre to End Trafficking in Persons continues to play a leading role in training and coordinating response efforts across other agencies.

The remaining $2.8 million will be provided to successful organizations that apply through this open application call. Funded projects will help people escape and recover from human trafficking, raise public awareness, enhance networking and collaboration, and ensure services are guided by trauma-informed, survivor-focused best practices.

Alberta’s government continues to work closely with the Alberta Centre to End Trafficking in Persons to ensure available funding is used as effectively as possible to strengthen provincewide capacity and ensure supports reach those who need them most.

Quick facts

  • Since 2023-24, the province has provided $11.3 million to non-profit organizations to end human trafficking.
  • Eligible applicants must be located in Alberta and be one of the following:
    • a registered non-profit organization and/or registered charity in good standing
    • a community-based coalition or network with a designated fiscal agent that is a registered non-profit organization and/or registered charity in good standing
    • an Indigenous community, including tribal councils, First Nations and Metis Settlements
