Alberta’s government remains committed to transparency and accountability in all its reporting. With the earliest timeline in the country, Alberta releases its annual reports in early summer, while most other provinces release results in the fall.
Through the 2025-26 fiscal year, Alberta’s government undertook significant, necessary restructuring of the health care system to improve quality of care for Albertans. As a result of the associated complexities, more time is needed for the health entities to finalize their numbers before the 2025-26 Annual Report can be released.
To provide Albertans with accurate, fully audited results, the year-end reports will be released as soon as possible, and no later than early fall. Even with the delay, Alberta’s reports will still be released in line with the rest of the country.
"We are committed to getting this done right. Albertans deserve accurate information about the province’s fiscal situation and what was accomplished in the last fiscal year, and we will publish a complete, quality annual report as soon as possible.”
While the reports are delayed, Alberta’s 2025 economic performance has proven strong. Alberta's economy outpaced the national average in 2025, with GDP growing an estimated 2.7 per cent, driven by a strong energy sector. Employment also grew about 2.8 per cent – the fastest rate in the country – and Alberta was the only province to post significant population growth while most other provinces registered declines.
Given the province’s economic successes, the 2025-26 deficit is anticipated to improve significantly from the $4.1 billion deficit estimated in February’s third quarter forecast.
