Due to a number of non-compliances with provincial standards, Education and Childcare has put Zebra Crossing Academy Mahogany Inc. on a probationary licence that will expire on Jan. 23, 2026. Child Care Licensing is closely monitoring the program.

Given significant safety concerns related to supervision of younger children, Child Care Licensing has also temporarily reduced the program’s licensed capacity and removed its ability to care for children under three years old, which will affect 82 spaces. Licensing staff is working with the program to support affected families who need to find new spaces elsewhere.

The licence holder is required to notify all parents of the probationary status and the changes to the program’s capacity, and must provide evidence of that notification to the Ministry of Education and Childcare. Probationary licences

The vast majority of child-care providers and educators in Alberta are committed to the safety and well-being of the children in their care.

If a licenced child-care program is unable to meet the standards set out by Alberta’s government, it can be subject to enforcement action, including suspension of its licence and a probationary licence. Further enforcement action, including cancellation of a licence, can occur if the level of risk continues or escalates. Education and Childcare may also issue administrative penalties for any violation of provincial legislation and regulations.

If the licenced child-care program is unable to return to compliance during the probationary period, the suspended licence expires and is not reinstated.
