A new suite of employment services is launching to connect Albertans to jobs and employers to skilled job seekers. Employment services are more than a link to the job market – they are a lifeline for people navigating unemployment, career changes or new training needs. WorkFirst Alberta will make it easier for Albertans to access workshops, reskilling opportunities and career supports, while giving employers the tools they need to find and retain talent.
Through Budget 2025, Alberta’s government is making record investments in career and employment services, committing $185 million to make it easier for Albertans to find a job, earn a paycheque and build a better future for themselves and their families.
“WorkFirst is about transforming lives. It will help job seekers become employees, support employers in finding the right talent and empower the dedicated service providers who make these connections possible. We are united in our goal to help Albertans connect to secure jobs where they can build a strong and prosperous future.”
Through WorkFirst Alberta, employers will be able to connect with local supports and access an employer toolkit and labour market information. In 2026, the program will expand further with the launch of a jobseeker-employer matching service and a concierge service tailored to employers.
“The reason people love Alberta is because we believe in opportunity. WorkFirst will open doors for more Albertans to find a good job that meets their needs. Not only does this create the means for someone to live, but it also builds a sense of pride, knowing they are a part of Alberta’s economic success.”
A key aspect of WorkFirst Alberta is ensuring Albertans facing barriers to employment receive the customized supports they need. It expands supports for persons with disabilities, women, youth and other Albertans facing barriers through flexible, person-centred services focussed on long-term success. These services include career planning, assistive technology and supported job placements. In addition, WorkFirst Alberta will improve access to wraparound supports including childcare, transportation and mental health supports.
“These programs deliver results that matter. We’ve seen participants gain confidence, overcome significant challenges and find long-term employment. The government’s investment enables partners like Ballad to provide effective, targeted services that support Alberta’s economy and offer real value to the communities we serve.”
“Prospect welcomes the province’s launch of WorkFirst Alberta. This new model will create innovative pathways for Albertans facing barriers and unlock critical labour pools to meet employer needs. WorkFirst ensures that all Albertans – regardless of background or circumstance – have the support they need to build brighter futures and strengthen Alberta’s workforce and economy.”
To support the launch, the province is rolling out a marketing campaign featuring real stories from Albertans who have benefitted from government-funded employment services – individuals who turned to these services for help and were able to find stable jobs and rebuild their lives. These stories will be showcased on the WorkFirst Alberta webpage.
