On the evening of Feb. 9, RCMP officers from the Bonnyville detachment attended an acreage on reports of a male acting violently inside a home on the property.

When the RCMP attended the residence, an interaction with the male occurred inside. One officer discharged their service firearm, striking the male and causing serious injuries. Officers provided emergency medical care until emergency medical services arrived to transport the male to hospital.

A firearm was found at the scene of the shooting. No officers or any members of the public were injured as a result of this incident.

ASIRT’s investigation will examine the use of force by officers. No additional information will be released.
