At 10:48 p.m. on Oct. 16, EPS was called to a business at 3450 Gateway Boulevard for assistance with a patron. Officers arrived at 11:04 p.m. and found the woman, who was being held down by a family member. Officers handcuffed the woman and sat her upright. Emergency medical services arrived and assessed her. She was released to her family, who planned to take her to the hospital, and placed in the back seat of a family member’s vehicle.

The woman then exited the vehicle and headed toward the street. Family members sought the assistance of police, who were still in the area. Officers handcuffed the woman again and placed her in the back seat of a police vehicle at 11:47 p.m.

Officers then drove the woman to a hospital, arriving at 12:01 a.m. When officers went to take the woman out of the back seat, she was not breathing. Officers began CPR, and hospital staff took over her care at 12:08 a.m.

The woman passed away in hospital on Oct. 18.
