Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Hazardous Road Condition Alert
Grave Flats Road in Yellowhead County has become extremely dangerous. The road is restricted access to emergency vehicles only. There have been some a storm event, and there is currently risk impounded along haul road of washing out the berm between the roads. Teck Coal is establishing blocks to the Yellowhead County road near LeHigh. Emergency access is allowed under escort only.
The road remains under steady rainfall, but there are currently no immediate safety concerns, everyone is safe. Teck Coal has suspended all operations at the site except for emergency activities to keep folks safe, and are focusing on protecting infrastructure and environment. There has been some surface runoff water breach over the berm between the haul road and the Yellowhead County road, which continues to outflow. The result has been localized gullying from the edge of the county road. This will require repair of the downslope fill/reclaimed area prior to safe public passage. A remediation and repair plan will be made following immediate site priorities In the interim, the county road will need to remain controlled/temporarily closed.
