History:

Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Wildfire Alert In Cypress County

There is a serious grass and wildfire affecting the areas between Township Road 180 and Township Road 190, on both the east and west sides of Highway #41 north, which is north of the hamlet of Hilda. The fire is rapidly spreading in a northeast direction as a result of the prevailing winds. Smoke is severely reducing the visibility and creating hazardous road conditions.

Cypress County Emergency Services are presently on scene fighting the fire. The RCMP have shut down both north and south bound traffic along Highway 41 north in the Hilda area due to visibility, and for public safety reasons. The length of any traffic delays are unknown at this time.

Action to take:

  • Visibility will be affected due to the smoke
  • Please avoid the area
  • Residents and farms north and east of the fire and north of the hamlet of Hilda should prepare for possible evacuation if necessary
  • Follow the directions of local authorities
  • More information and updates will follow.
