Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Hazardous Road Condition Alert Cancelled

Major roads and most school bus routes are now open and staff are clearing snow from local roads.

Update 1:20 PM Oct 5 Road clearing on major roads and school bus routes is nearing completion. Gravel roads are still soft and slippery and we anticipate adverse road conditions for a few days. Snow plowing of remaining local roads is in progress. Update 12:00 PM Oct 4 Road clearing on main roads has been completed and we are working to clear school bus routes. Local roads will follow. A typical winter storm takes County resources 4 days to clear all roads. This was a larger event than normal and we appreciate your patience. Please use caution and take adequate clothing and supplies when travelling. ********** Update 4:20 PM Oct 3 Road clearing continues to experience difficult conditions with heavy melting snow causing road graders to experience difficulties with traction and slow progress. Clearing of main roads approximately 80% complete. Clearing of school bus routes approximately 40% complete. Other roads will be addressed as soon as time permits. Road graders will clear snow tonight until 6:00 PM and resume in the morning, as many operators were here during the night last night and remainder were here early this morning. Use caution if you are forced to travel. Low temperatures overnight will harden ruts and blocks of snow on surfaces and create difficult driving conditions. In some locations snow was not able to be pushed completely off road surfaces so use caution and reduce speed when meeting oncoming traffic. Travelling surface may be narrower than usual. Next update Wednesday Oct 4th around noon. ********** Travel on these roads may not be possible. The County has 16 road graders working to clear roads but the amount of heavy wet snow we received means this may take a couple of days. Do not travel unless you know your route is passible as many motorists have become stuck already. Emergency services may not be able to respond.

Action to take:

  • Winter conditions exist throughout the area
  • Take warm clothing other supplies and tools you may need if you get stuck
  • For travel on highways within the County refer to Alberta 511 for road conditions.
