Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Hazardous Road Condition Alert - Castor Area Updated

Roads have become extremely hazardous due to snow/ice build up and not recommended for travel.

Hwys 12, 36, 599 are open and passable, not fully plowed. Take caution while on these routes. Hwys 855, 872, 861 are not plowed yet and NOT recommended for travel in the County of Paintearth - Castor, Halkirk, and Coronation areas. Plow crews are attending and hoping to return to full service within 24 hrs. County roads RR123 is open from Hwys 599 to 12. County forces are reporting open roads: Twp Rd 390 between Hwys 36 and 855, Twp Rd 370 between Hwys 12 and 872, Rg Rd 123 north of 599 to Battle River and south to Hwy 12, Twp Rd 382 from Hwy 36 to RR123, RR131 north of 12 to 599 and south of 12 to Twp Rd 360. Lake Thelma road now open. Twp 400 from Hwys 36 to 855 open. County forces continuing to open roads, and supporting ATCO crews accessing power repair areas to restore electric utility.

Action to take:

  • BE PATIENT - roads are coming back into service as County crews plow
  • Hwys slowly seeing improvements from limited plowing coverage ability
  • If it is necessary to travel, ensure full fuel tanks, carry blankets and supplies in the event you get stuck
  • Be cautious as there are still stuck or ditched vehicles requiring access, towing, or being tended to by crews.
