“Today, we honour First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans whose service, sacrifice and enduring legacy have helped protect the freedoms and way of life we are fortunate to enjoy today.

“For generations, Indigenous Peoples have answered the call to serve, contributing their skills, knowledge and leadership in times of war and peace. From the earliest days of service to today, they have stood with courage and resilience to defend our country and support the safety and well-being of others.

“Indigenous veterans have served on the front lines of global conflicts and in important roles supporting communities here at home. Their contributions have helped protect lives, strengthen communities and shape the Canada we know today. Their legacy continues through the work of veterans, families and organizations who honour and carry forward these stories, ensuring that future generations remember their service.

“National Indigenous Veterans Day is a time to recognize these contributions, reflect on the sacrifices made in service and reaffirm our shared commitment to honouring those who have served. It is also a moment to listen, learn and carry these stories forward with respect and gratitude.”

“Lest we forget.”
