The new Airdrie Covenant Health Centre will house two new facilities, making it easier than ever for residents of Airdrie and surrounding communities to access a range of critical health services. A new Urgent Care and Birthing Centre will share the health centre with a new Primary, Surgical and Ambulatory Care Centre.
Airdrie’s population has almost tripled over the past 20 years, growing from about 30,000 people to more than 90,000. The new health centre will help health services keep pace with that growth and allow more residents to get the care they need closer to home.
The Urgent Care and Birthing Centre will provide care for non-life-threatening urgent health concerns, as well as maternal and birthing services. It will support about 1,000 deliveries and more than 30,000 urgent care visits per year. The attached Primary, Surgical and Ambulatory Care Centre will add capacity for about 10,000 surgical procedures annually.

Alberta’s government will support construction and land acquisition for the new Urgent Care and Birthing Centre. Covenant Health will develop the attached Primary and Ambulatory Care Centre. Covenant Health will work closely with the ministries of Hospital and Surgical Health Services and Infrastructure to plan and align services based on current and projected demand in Airdrie, northern Calgary and neighbouring communities.

The Airdrie Covenant Health Centre is the first phase of Airdrie’s new Covenant Wellness Community. This community-focused approach brings multiple health services together to improve access and coordination of care in the community. The broader development is planned to bring health and wellness services together in one place.

As the region continues to grow, Alberta’s government is investing in additional health services to meet the increasing demand and ensure residents can access the care they need closer to home. The new health centre is expected to open in 2031.
