“Today marks the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty No. 6, an agreement that continues to shape relationships and contribute to the social, cultural and economic fabric of Alberta and Canada.

“One hundred and fifty years after Treaty No. 6 was entered into, it is important for all of us to reflect on its enduring significance and the ongoing importance of respecting the Treaty relationship that continues now and into the future.

“Throughout this past week, people across Alberta and Saskatchewan gathered for events, ceremonies and educational activities. Alberta’s government is proud to support events marking this milestone and the opportunities they provide for people to gather, learn and reflect.

“I also want to recognize the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, leaders and community members who continue to share the history and teachings of Treaty No. 6 with future generations.

“As communities come together today to commemorate this milestone, I extend my best wishes to all those participating in events marking the anniversary.”
