Alberta’s capital will welcome more than 200 athletes, coaches and technical officials from 15 countries to compete at Foote Field in the fifth annual Edmonton Athletics Invitational. The meet is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver, offering athletes an opportunity to earn ranking points ahead of international championships.
Through the Major Sport Events grant program, Alberta’s government has provided more than $181,000 to support the planning and execution of the event. The competition is expected to generate more than $1 million in economic impact for the Edmonton region, with more than 3,000 spectators anticipated to attend.

Organized by Athletics Alberta, the Edmonton Athletics Invitational will showcase a full slate of track and field events, including sprint, distance, field and para competitions. Both international and Canadian athletes will compete for ranking points as they build toward major international competitions later this season
Among the Alberta athletes competing are: Edmonton’s Marco Arop, Olympic silver medallist in the 800 metres; Sherwood Park–born Paralympic sprinter Amanda Rummery, a multi-time national champion and Canadian record holder; and Calgary’s Noah Vucsics, a Paralympic long jumper and international medallist.

Major sport events like the Edmonton Athletics Invitational play an important role in strengthening Alberta’s tourism and sport sectors.
