To kick off the summer, the 2026 North American Cup Series will return to Climb YEG for its second consecutive year, bringing elite sport climbing competition to Edmonton’s scenic river valley from June 26 to 28. The event will welcome more than 150 athletes, coaches and officials from North and South America and is expected to attract more than 3,000 spectators, supporting local businesses and showcasing all that the Edmonton region has to offer.

Through the Major Sport Events grant program, Alberta’s government has provided more than $76,000 in funding to support the planning and execution of the event. This grant program provides financial assistance to support organizations in planning and hosting national and international sporting events in Alberta. The competition is expected to generate up to $2.2 million for the local economy, benefiting tourism, hospitality and small businesses across Edmonton.

“We are thrilled to welcome this international climbing event back to Alberta. Edmonton’s scenic river valley offers an ideal setting for athletes and fans alike, providing the perfect stage for this competition, and showcasing Edmonton as a premier sport destination.”

Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport

Edmonton is one of only two Canadian stops on the North American Cup Series. The event features advanced and elite climbers and is presented by Climbing Escalade Canada in partnership with Climb YEG. Competitors will take part in both lead and speed climbing disciplines.

“By supporting the North American Cup Series in Edmonton for a second consecutive year, the Government of Alberta is creating meaningful opportunities for athletes to develop, compete and pursue excellence at a critical stage of their sporting journey.”

Christiane Marceau, executive director, Climbing Escalade Canada

Beyond the competition, the event will offer a community-focused outdoor festival with try-it climbing sessions, sport demos, educational activities, a local business expo, live entertainment, food vendors, and a range of family-friendly attractions.
