Alberta’s government joined CGC Inc. to mark the grand opening of its new wallboard manufacturing plant. This $210-million investment grows the province’s manufacturing sector and creates nearly 100 full-time jobs in the region.

The new operation shows ongoing confidence in Alberta as a competitive destination for investment and manufacturing. Through its Investment and Growth Fund, Alberta’s government helped attract this investment, which is one of the most technologically advanced plants in the company’s network. It will substantially strengthen supply in Western Canada.

“Investments like this are a clear example of a company seeing the opportunity for business in Alberta. Our landscape, low taxes and regulatory environment create a province ripe for investment. Congratulations to CGC Inc. on this milestone. Alberta’s government is proud to support investments that strengthen our manufacturing sector, create jobs and help rural communities thrive.”

Joseph Schow, Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration

The project was first announced in 2022, with collaboration between CGC Inc., the Government of Alberta, Wheatland County and Invest Alberta. Since then, the investment has created approximately 200 jobs in construction in addition to its permanent job impact.

“We are proud to officially open our doors in Wheatland County and expand our long-term commitment to Western Canada. This investment establishes a modern, sustainable manufacturing hub for the regional construction industry, creates nearly 100 high-quality jobs, and helps ensure builders have access to the materials they need to build the homes and infrastructure Canada depends on.”

Steve Youngblut, president, CGC Inc.

The project received $3.7 million through the province’s Investment and Growth Fund, which helps attract high-value projects that create jobs, drive economic growth and strengthen communities across Alberta.

Manufacturing investments like CGC’s Wheatland facility play an important role in diversifying Alberta’s economy, strengthening supply chains and expanding opportunities in rural communities. They reflect Alberta’s strength as the best place to invest, build and do business.

“Investments like this show confidence in our region as an economic hub, building the provincial economy and creating jobs for the families who call Wheatland County home. I am pleased to welcome CGC Inc. and celebrate this next chapter alongside them. Projects like this are economic drivers for the local economy and demonstrate clearly what southern Alberta has to offer.”

Chantelle de Jonge, MLA, Chestermere-Strathmore

“CGC’s investment in Wheatland County demonstrates growing global confidence in Alberta as a location for high-value manufacturing. This facility strengthens Western Canada’s access to essential building materials, helping to improve supply chain resilience. Invest Alberta is proud to work alongside our partners to support CGC’s growth in our province.”
