“For 40 years, Albertans have come together during the first week of June to celebrate the seniors who helped shape our province and continue to make our communities better every day.
“Seniors are parents, grandparents, neighbours, mentors and friends. Their hard work and dedication have built the communities we are proud to call home today. That’s why I am proud to declare June 1 to 7 as Seniors’ Week in Alberta.
“This year’s celebrations will begin in Grande Prairie alongside Intergenerational Day, bringing together Albertans of all ages to celebrate the relationships and connections that strengthen our communities. Grande Prairie is a fitting host for the celebrations, receiving an Age-Friendly Alberta Recognition Award for the community’s outstanding commitment to helping seniors stay connected, included and supported.
“Alberta is home to approximately 875,000 seniors, and their impact can be felt in every corner of the province. Whether through volunteering, supporting their families or sharing their experience and wisdom, seniors continue to help shape Alberta’s future.
“Our government remains committed to making sure seniors have the support they need to live well and age with dignity in the communities they’ve helped build. That’s why Alberta’s government is investing more than $6.6 billion this year to support seniors across the province.
“Seniors’ Week is a chance for all Albertans to show appreciation for the seniors in their lives. Whether attending a local event, sharing a meal or simply spending time together, I encourage everyone to take a moment this week to celebrate Alberta’s seniors and the lasting impact they have on our province.”
