Alberta’s government is partnering with CASA Mental Health to build a new CASA House in Calgary, helping young people strengthen their mental wellness, resilience and skills needed to live healthy and fulfilling lives. The Calgary CASA House will provide live-in and day treatment programs for young Albertans in grades 7 to 12 who are experiencing complex mental health challenges but do not require care in an acute hospital or psychiatric setting. The goal is to help young people build lifelong mental wellness and resiliency through therapy, skills-building, on-site schooling and strong family involvement.
“Every young person deserves the opportunity to live their best life. With this important milestone, we’re starting to see the Calgary CASA House come to life. We are committed to ensuring Albertans have access the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”
This new 20-bed facility is expected to start accepting referrals in late 2027 and will help approximately 80 young Albertans and their family members each year. Once operational, Calgary CASA House will employ about 40 staff members, plus a multi-disciplinary team available across programs. The trauma-informed team will include mental health therapists, therapy support navigators, behaviour specialists, nurses, psychiatrists and many other professional and support staff.
“CASA Mental Health is thankful that the Government of Alberta has recognized the urgent need for more mental health treatment for Alberta families, and has provided funding to make new CASA House facilities a reality across the province. As a mom and health care leader, I see firsthand how many young people and their families are struggling with significant mental illness, including our friends, our neighbours, our coworkers and often our own families. This growing need drives CASA to expand our circle of care so more medical and therapeutic treatment options are available closer to home, when and where they’re needed.”
“My child was experiencing such severe mental health struggles that they became a danger to themselves. After a long journey, Faer was admitted to CASA House at 13 years old. Faer is now 18 and thriving most days – but most importantly, surviving every day. I’m so pleased more young people and their families will have better lives because of a new CASA House facility.”

The Calgary CASA House builds on existing child and youth mental health supports available in the Calgary area, including CASA Mental Health Classrooms, school-based mental wellness programs, services at The Summit and a range of community-based and digital mental health supports.
Through the Alberta Recovery Model, Alberta’s government is continuing to invest in the infrastructure, programs and services that will give young Albertans access to the mental health supports they need. This includes investing in digital supports like 211 Alberta, Kids Help Phone and Kickstand Connect; supporting in-person Kickstand youth mental health hubs; increasing access to eating disorder treatment for young Albertans; and investing in affordable counselling options.
