His experience and dedication helped guide the organization through its early development, and we wish him every success in his new role on the bench.”
Alberta’s government is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine Murphy as the new chief executive officer of the PRC, effective June 8, 2026.

She has led large, multi-disciplinary teams and brings extensive experience as a civilian leader in law enforcement, with a strong commitment to independent, fair and transparent police oversight that builds public trust and confidence.
“I am honoured to lead the Police Review Commission as it continues to grow and deliver on its important mandate. I look forward to working with the team to ensure independent, fair and transparent oversight that strengthens trust between communities and police across Alberta.”
Most recently, Katherine Murphy served as chief strategy officer with the Calgary Police Service, overseeing the Bureau of Organizational Performance, including strategy, legal services, professional standards, finance, policy, strategic communications and intergovernmental relations.

Her background positions her well to lead the Police Review Commission as it continues to mature and deliver on its mandate.”
The Police Review Commission became operational on Dec. 1, 2025, representing a significant modernization of Alberta’s police oversight framework.
In its first five months of operation, the PRC has prioritized building robust operational processes, clear policies and strong investigative capacity to support independent civilian oversight of policing in Alberta. Key efforts have included strengthening reporting practices, advancing improvements to the case management system to enhance consistency, transparency and service delivery, and continuing to staff up critical roles to support operational demands. This work has established a solid foundation for timely, fair and credible oversight across the province.
As operations continue to advance, the PRC remains focused on its mandate to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public confidence in policing.
