“Today, Buddhists in Alberta and around the world observe Vesak Day, commemorating the birth, enlightenment and passing of the Buddha. Also known as Buddha Jayanti or Buddha Purnima.
“This sacred day invites reflection on the Noble Eightfold Path and the Buddha’s timeless teachings of compassion, peace and goodwill.
“Observed on the full moon in May and celebrated for more than 2,600 years, Vesak Day is a time of spiritual renewal, meditation and gratitude, as followers reflect on the journey toward wisdom and understanding.
“Rooted in mindfulness and generosity, this day is also marked by acts of kindness and service towards others in the community.
“Happy Vesak Day to all who celebrate and may this sacred time bring meaningful reflection, happiness and inner peace to you and your families.”
