“Today, Albertans join people across Canada and around the world to recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made and to renew our commitment to confronting racism and advancing meaningful change in our communities.

“For decades individuals, organizations and governments have worked to advance human rights and address racial discrimination, building on the commitments established following the 1965 signing of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

“Alberta’s government remains committed to building a province where people of all backgrounds are respected, valued and have the opportunity to succeed. The Anti-Racism Grant Program continues to support community-led initiatives that educate Albertans on the harmful impacts of racism. We are also taking concrete, lasting action by advancing the commitments in Alberta’s Anti-Racism Action Plan.

“While progress has been made, we recognize that eliminating racism requires sustained effort, accountability and shared responsibility. Today, we recommit to fostering a province where inclusion, dignity and respect are reflected in our communities, our institutions and our daily lives.

“Together, let us continue building a more welcoming, inclusive and united Alberta for all.”
