“The introduction of Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy is welcome news, putting a focus on an area neglected for far too long. With proper implementation, this strategy will benefit Canada in more ways than one. Not only will it make our country more secure and less dependent on other jurisdictions for that security, it will also grow an industry that creates jobs and diversifies our economy.
“Alberta is well positioned to play a leading role in strengthening Canada’s defence industrial base. We are home to four major Canadian Armed Forces bases and Canada’s largest air weapons test range. Further to this, Alberta is known for its highly skilled workforce and readily accessible land, which make us a viable option for investment. Even today, Alberta is advancing new defence-related infrastructure, manufacturing, and research opportunities.
“Our government continues to seek out opportunities for a more diverse economy, creating jobs for Albertans and maintaining our position as the best place to live, work and raise a family. I look forward to collaboratively working with the federal government to ensure our province gets a fair share of the more than half a trillion dollars in total defence-related investment between now and 2035.”
