With the release of Alberta’s 2025 list of baby names, Olivia and Noah have proven to have a dynasty among parents. Olivia has held the top spot for 13 consecutive years. The next longest reigning name was Ethan, at nine consecutive years between 2001 and 2009, followed by Liam, with seven years from 2010 to 2016. 2025 marks Noah’s seventh year in a row in the top spot for boys.
Amelia, Emma, Sophia (tied), Charlotte, and Violet were among the top five most popular names for baby girls, while Theodore, Oliver, Henry, Jack and Lucas (tied) rounded out the top five choices for baby boys.

This year’s list of baby names showcases the impact of Alberta’s growing film and television industry. It was clear that some parents have been inspired by the biggest names and characters in pop culture having chosen names like Khaleesi, Zendaya and Beckham. Some parents were inspired by Greek mythology with names like Artemis and Zephyr, while others looked to mother nature choosing names such as Azalea, Magnolia, and Sparrow.
Adding to the new arrivals are names that express joy and optimism like Faith, Joy and Treasure, while others took a focus to Alberta’s heritage with names like Jasper, and Rose, the province’s official floral emblem.
