In Alberta, pesticides must be applied in a safe and effective manner that prevents negative impacts to human health and the environment.

In 2022 and 2023, Wade C. Pillman provided pesticide services to an oil company and the Town of Wainwright. The services involved the application of pesticides without a valid pesticide service registration and without being a holder of a valid pesticide applicator certificate.

Wade C. Pillman pleaded guilty to one count under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and Pesticide (Ministerial) Regulation. All remaining charges were withdrawn.

He was sentenced to a $1,000 penalty inclusive of the victim surcharge. Additionally, he was issued a court order prohibiting him from pesticide-related activities for three years.
