“Today, we honour and pay special tribute to the thousands of Indigenous veterans and current service members for their invaluable contributions at home and abroad. Throughout history, Indigenous Peoples have courageously served Canada and shown great leadership in their communities.

“From the front lines of global conflict to critical roles in emergency response here at home, First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans have served with honour and distinction – on land, at sea and in the air. Their dedication has safeguarded lives, strengthened communities and upheld values that continue to shape our shared future.

“Many Indigenous veterans and organizations, including the Aboriginal Veterans Society, continue to serve by supporting fellow veterans. Through advocacy, education and community connection, they keep the memories and contributions of Indigenous veterans alive and inspire future generations to live a life of service.

“Their work reminds us that remembrance is not passive. It calls on each of us to listen, to learn and to act. Thank you to all Indigenous veterans. Your service has shaped this country in ways we are still learning to understand. Let us remember and uphold these truths. Not just today, but every day.

“Lest we forget.”
