On Oct. 23, members of the legislative assembly return for the start of the second session of Alberta’s 31st legislature. The first session saw the passage of 55 government bills, setting a strong foundation for continued action. The 2025 fall session will open with a speech from the throne outlining the next steps to deliver on the government’s mandate.
A central focus will be standing up for Alberta by creating the conditions needed to grow the economy, create jobs and support those who call it home. This session will drive progress on some of the priorities that matter most: health care, education and public safety.
“Albertans gave us a job to do, and we are getting it done. I am excited to say we are focused on the issues that matter to Albertans, defending our interests with low taxes and regulatory burden, public safety, stronger health care and making life better and safer for all. This session, our government is going to take the steps we need to take to keep Alberta the best place to live, work, do business and raise a family.”
The legislation this fall will include the complete implementation of new health agencies including Acute Care Alberta and Primary Care Alberta, along with amendments to lay the groundwork needed for the new Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS), which will increase law enforcement capacity across the province and ensure Alberta’s evolving public safety needs are being met.
Other changes proposed this session will increase labour mobility by streamlining approvals for internationally trained professionals to work in regulated professions. As well, there will be legislation proposed to protect regulated professionals from undue discipline that violates their rights and freedoms for matters outside their work.
Since 2019, Alberta’s government has cut red tape that has saved taxpayers and businesses more than $3 billion. This figure will continue to grow as new legislation further tackles regulatory burden and bureaucracy that cost Albertans time and money.
Alberta’s government expects to table at least 15 pieces of legislation including:
- Regulated Professions Neutrality Act
- Health Statutes Amendment Act
- Public Safety and Emergency Services Statues Amendment Act
- Utilities Statutes Amendment Act
- Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act
- Water Amendment Act
- Justice Statutes Amendment Act
- Financial Statutes Amendment Act

This fall, government will focus on action and accountability to turn plans into results Albertans can see and feel. Through meaningful debate and decisive legislation, the session will strengthen essential services, protect freedoms and keep Alberta’s economy moving forward. With a clear direction and a proven record of results, government is ready to build on its success and deliver for Albertans once again.
