“The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) and Alberta’s government have agreed to advance current negotiations through an enhanced mediation process.
“I had an opportunity to meet with AUPE President Guy Smith to discuss our shared interest in supporting a resolution to negotiations. The work of these employees is highly valued by Alberta’s government and all Albertans. Both parties want to reach an agreement that is fair and equitable to government’s valued workers, and we believe this process is the best path forward.
“This enhanced mediation process is to conclude by the end of August with the mediator producing non-binding recommendations for the parties’ consideration.
“I appreciate that the parties are willing to participate in enhanced mediation and I’m hopeful that it is productive and successful. Out of respect for this process, no further comment will be made at this time.”
