“Tomorrow, we recognize the diverse cultures, histories and contributions of Indigenous Peoples as we come together to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. This meaningful occasion is a time for us all to learn more about Indigenous experiences, traditions and knowledge.
“National Indigenous Peoples Day is more than a celebration – it is a call to action. It is a time to deepen our understanding, strengthen our relationships and reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation.
“Alberta’s government remains deeply committed to this journey. Indigenous Peoples have played a vital role in shaping Alberta for countless generations, and their wisdom and guidance continue to enrich our province. Indigenous voices and perspectives are vital to our collective future, and we must continue to listen.
“There are many ways to show our appreciation of the rich cultures of Indigenous Peoples, such as attending local Indigenous events, reading a book by a First Nations, Métis or Inuit writer or exploring the many other vibrant expressions of Indigenous art and heritage across the province.
“Later today, I will be attending a special event at the Royal Alberta Museum. The museum will proudly host people from the Edmonton region in a celebration of Indigenous music, languages, arts, crafts and cultures. More information about the event can be found online at royalalbertamuseum.ca.
“I hope everyone will join us in celebrating Indigenous cultures and walking together with Indigenous Peoples in the spirit of reconciliation.”
