“Alberta is leading the way in breaking down internal trade barriers and opening doors to opportunity across Canada.
“Current international trade uncertainty underscores the need to further bolster interprovincial trade to unlock Canada’s true potential and improve economic prosperity. Interprovincial trade helps people, businesses and industries across our country grow and thrive. By making it easier to work across provinces, both businesses and consumers will benefit.
“Alberta has already removed 80 per cent of our exceptions under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement and leads in the open movement of goods, services and labour across the country. We continue to work with our provincial and federal partners through the Committee on Internal Trade and the Forum of Labour Market Ministers to find common ground on removing trade barriers.
“To increase transparency and drive further progress on internal trade, Alberta’s government has launched a new free trade website to showcase Alberta’s work in removing barriers to trade. The website also hosts a new tool for Canadian workers, businesses and industries to engage directly with the government and share the internal trade barriers they face. This crucial feedback will help inform Alberta’s ongoing efforts to break down trade barriers and accelerate economic growth. Visit alberta.ca/freetrade for more information.
“Alberta’s government is committed to working with our federal, provincial and territorial partners to advance opportunities for Albertans and their businesses in Canada, and we applaud the recent efforts of other provinces in their work to remove their trade barriers.
“A stronger internal trading market means more jobs, more investment and lower costs for Albertans and Canadians. Alberta is taking this action because we know a freer Canada is a stronger Canada.”
