Cancer affects countless lives, making comprehensive care essential. Alberta’s government is committed to investing in facilities and innovations that enhance cancer treatment. The Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre embodies this commitment and is set to elevate cancer care across the province.
Operations at the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (Arthur Child) are set to begin in late October. Some patients with cancer care appointments booked on and after Oct. 25 will have their appointments moved to the new facility. Those affected will be notified of the location change through myAHS Connect, the patient communication portal, and by mail.
“This represents a key milestone as we prepare for the clinical opening of the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. We look forward to welcoming patients to this world-class facility where they will receive personalized treatments with exceptional care.”
With an investment of $1.4 billion, the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre is one of the largest government infrastructure projects in Alberta, reflecting a significant commitment to advancing cancer care in the province.
The centre will feature 160 inpatient beds and more than 9,200 square metres of dedicated research space. It will offer both inpatient and outpatient services, placing patients at the centre of a multidisciplinary health system.
“After years of dedication and hard work, we are beyond excited to finally start transitioning our patients to Arthur Child. This state-of-the-art space is a testament to the tireless efforts of everyone involved, especially our patients and family advisers, and we are honoured to welcome our patients.”
The Arthur J.E. Child Cancer Centre’s extensive scope and integration of cancer care services will make it one of the most advanced cancer centres in the world. Its integrated research will further enhance care, with a focus on prevention, early detection, patient-centred treatment, supportive care and patient experiences and outcomes.
The centre is designed to meet the needs of today while preparing for the future, ensuring Albertans receive the highest level of care in an environment that fosters both healing and innovation.
