“Today, more than two million Christians in Alberta will begin marking Advent, a time spent in anticipation of the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. In Western Christianity, Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and continues until Christmas Eve.
“Each Sunday during the Advent season, a candle will be lit at churches throughout the province, symbolizing hope, peace, joy and love. It is a season of waiting, reflection and hope as Christians look forward to the coming of Christ historically and once more in the future.
