“Beginning tonight at sundown, Muslims in Alberta and across the world will celebrate Mawlid al-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, or PBUH, which is an expression that follows his name.

“Celebrations may include daytime fasting and special prayers, gathering at a mosque for sermons, reflections on the life of the Prophet (PBUH) through lectures or poetry, and a communal meal.

“October is Islamic Heritage Month in Alberta, a time to celebrate the contributions of our Muslim neighbours to the faith, culture and community we enjoy in this place of truly beautiful diversity.

“I wish continued blessings of peace and happiness on all in Alberta observing the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”
