“This festival is celebrated by Hindus in Alberta and throughout the world. Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, is the 10th day and culmination of Navratri, the autumn festival dedicated to the nine forms of the goddess Durga.

“The day is celebrated in many ways throughout the world – by offering prayers, traditional dancing and food. Communities are gathering together to celebrate the symbolic triumph of good over evil.

“I encourage all Albertans to learn more about Alberta’s Hindu community. Hindus are an important part of Alberta’s diversity and we appreciate their contributions to making our province great. My best wishes to everyone celebrating Vijayadashami, or Dussehra.”
