“Alberta’s government joins governments around the world to recognize Right to Know Day.

“This important day, which is part of Right to Know Week, celebrates the public’s right to access government information.

“Access to information – and the protection of privacy – are two sides of the same coin and support a long democratic tradition in our province and country.

“As Albertans know, we live in an increasingly digital world, and with that comes risks and opportunities. As we continue our journey through the ever-evolving information landscape, I look forward to working with Alberta’s new information and privacy commissioner, Diane McLeod, who recently stepped into that important role.

“I also want to acknowledge the contribution of our former information and privacy commissioner Jill Clayton, and thank her for her many years of service to Albertans.

“Lastly, I want to thank members of Alberta’s public service, who help Albertans access government information every day. Indeed, their service is a reflection of the very principle we are celebrating today.”
