On Feb. 2, 2020, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate a fatal shooting involving officers from the Lloydminster RCMP detachment that occurred earlier that day. The shooting happened at the end of a lengthy and hazardous criminal flight involving a stolen vehicle. During the investigation into the shooting, evidence arose that led to a dangerous driving investigation under Sec. 46.2 of the Police Act. Both investigations are now complete.

On Nov. 19, 2020, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate the death of a man at the conclusion of a criminal flight that occurred earlier that day. ASIRT’s investigation is now complete.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
