Premier Jason Kenney and Energy Minister Sonya Savage will travel to Washington, D.C., to represent Alberta in meetings on Capitol Hill, and participate in the IHS Oil Sands Dialogue. Additionally, Premier Kenney and Minister Savage will participate in events organized by the Pathways Alliance.

“The world needs more responsibly produced energy and Alberta – which adheres to the highest environmental, human rights and labour standards – is the logical choice to help meet that demand. Alberta is ready to help our U.S. neighbours create a stable, affordable and ethical energy system for North America, and we look forward to productive discussions through this mission.”

Jason Kenney, Premier

“We continue working to address North American and global energy security concerns that have been neglected for too long. It is important for Alberta to have a seat at the table when these matters are being discussed. Our energy sector supports jobs on both sides of the border, lowers U.S. energy costs, and plays a vital role in maintaining a reliable, affordable, North American energy system.”

Sonya Savage, Minister of Energy

The mission builds on the success of Alberta’s work to strengthen energy security and affordability, and to showcase Alberta’s leadership and real successes in emissions reduction, technological innovation and environmental stewardship. This includes Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia’s visit to Alberta in April and Premier Kenney’s May 2022 testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on the province’s role in North American energy security and responsible energy development.

Minister Savage will travel from June 20-23 and will be accompanied by her chief of staff and two officials from Alberta Energy. Premier Kenney will travel from June 22-24 and be supported by three staff members.

Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.

Alberta’s government is committed to working with its national and international partners to advance shared interests that can lead to new opportunities for people and businesses in Alberta and around the world.

The six member companies of the Pathways Alliance – Canadian Natural, Cenovus Energy, ConocoPhillips Canada, Imperial, MEG and Suncor Energy – operate about 95 per cent of Canada’s oil sands production. The Pathways Alliance is continuing the considerable work already underway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from oil sands production by 22 million tonnes annually by 2030, and ultimately achieve its goal of net-zero emissions oil sands production by 2050.
