“Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Power, commemorates the revelation of the Holy Qur’an to the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Muslims observe this holiest of nights, which occurs during Ramadan, through prayer, reflection and reading of the Qur’an. Muslims may dedicate the entire night to their devotions, as it is believed they will receive as much blessing in return as they would get from worshipping for a thousand months.

“Alberta’s Muslim community makes great contributions to our economy, our culture and our neighbourhoods. I encourage Albertans to learn more about their rich heritage and the ways it has made our province a more diverse place.

“To those observing Laylat al-Qadr, I extend my best wishes for a night of reflection and blessing.”
