“For 15 years, World Autism Awareness Day has been a marvelous opportunity to recognize the resilience and contributions of individuals with autism.
“Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a common condition that typically starts during childhood and continues into adulthood. About one in 66 children and youth are diagnosed on the autism spectrum in Canada. This developmental disorder affects people worldwide.
“People with ASD have much to contribute to our communities. With early diagnosis, treatment and support from families, friends and their network of caregivers, they can lead engaged and independent lives full of opportunities, including going to school and working.
“I encourage all Albertans to be accepting, understanding and inclusive of people with ASD. Whether you have autism, love someone who does or are looking to support a diverse, accepting and kind community, I invite you to help create a world where all people with autism can reach their full potential.”
