As of Feb. 10, 90 per cent of Albertans aged 12 and older have received one dose of vaccine through Alberta Health Services, community pharmacies and physician offices.
In addition, 86.3 per cent of Albertans aged 12 and older have now received two doses, helping to protect themselves and those around them, and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
More than 226,400 pediatric vaccines (first and second doses) have also been administered to children aged five to 11.
All Albertans are encouraged to get immunized with the dose they’re eligible for as soon as possible to protect themselves, their families and their communities.
“My thanks go out to the Albertans who have stepped up to get immunized. Every dose administered not only protects individuals but also our communities at large and the capacity of our health-care system. It’s also important to follow up with a second dose when you’re eligible to ensure the best possible protection for yourself and others.”
“Millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Alberta safely and effectively. Data from right here in our province shows that vaccines are helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the province and protect against severe outcomes. I encourage all Albertans to book an appointment for your first, second or booster dose as soon as you’re eligible.”
Booster doses
Current evidence indicates that vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 infection appears to wane over time, especially with the Omicron variant. While individual protection against severe outcomes remains strong after two doses for most people, booster doses help strengthen protection against both infection and severe outcomes.
Everyone aged 18 and older can book appointments for a third dose of mRNA vaccine at least five months after receiving their second dose. Albertans aged 12 and older who are immunocompromised can also book an appointment for a third dose but must wait at least eight weeks after their second dose.
Albertans aged 18 and older who have specific immunocompromising conditions are eligible to receive a fourth dose five months after their third dose.
All eligible Albertans are being asked to get all the vaccinations they are eligible for as soon as possible to protect themselves, their families and their communities.
Book online with Alberta Health Services and participating pharmacies by using the Alberta vaccine booking system. Albertans can also call 811or participating pharmacies.
