The UCeed Social Impact Fund provides early-stage loan and equity funding to support the development of social enterprises focused on making positive changes in our communities and that use a business approach to address a social need. The UCeed Social Impact Fund is also made possible by a $2.5-million donation from the United Way of Calgary and Area.

“UCeed is the first of many collaborations and programs under our new Creative Partnerships Alberta strategy to spark investment and build partnerships between the arts, non-profit, philanthropy and the business sectors. Sustainable non-profit and arts sectors are important to Alberta’s social, emotional and economic recovery. That’s why we’re supporting social enterprises that will improve Albertans’ quality of life, address social challenges, and help grow local economies.”

Ron Orr, Minister of Culture

“One of the key goals of the Alberta 2030: Building Skills for Jobs strategy is to increase collaboration between post-secondary institutions and the private sector, and to do so in innovative ways. UCeed checks all the boxes while supporting arts organizations and non-profits. I hope that UCeed can be held up as a model for future collaborations in our province.”

Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Advanced Education

“We are grateful to the Government of Alberta for their commitment to UCeed’s Social Impact Fund that will provide much-needed investment for startup companies making an impact in the community. Together with support from United Way of Calgary and Area, this partnership brings together a leading university and community partner with the provincial government. Through UCeed, we can demonstrate how in an environment where innovative ideas are welcome, entrepreneurialism can flourish and transformational social impact is possible."

Alberta's Recovery Plan

« La United Way of Calgary and Area s'est engagée à trouver des solutions transformatrices à long terme à des problèmes sociaux complexes. »

Beth Gignac, United Way of Calgary and Area
