“Today is World Arthritis Day. My thoughts are with the more than 600,000 Albertans of all ages and backgrounds who live with chronic inflammation, stiffness and pain caused by this condition. Enjoyment of life and executing everyday tasks can be challenging mentally and physically for those living with arthritis.

“Arthritis is a group of more than 100 chronic conditions affecting the joints and other tissue, and is the most common cause of disability in Canada.

“Until a cure is found, quality of life can be improved. There are a number of supports and programs available to Albertans to manage arthritis and other chronic conditions. I encourage you to stay active and work with your health-care providers to manage pain and improve flexibility, strength and endurance.

“For those who live with arthritis or care for someone who does, I encourage you to find further information, resources, and meaningful  support and connections through the Arthritis Society or by calling their help line at 1-800-321-1433.

“No one needs to struggle with arthritis alone.”
