Agriculture and Forestry Minister Devin Dreeshen will join Calgary-Fish Creek MLA Richard Gotfried, Livingstone-Macleod MLA Roger Reid and Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright MLA Garth Rowswell on the ground for the summit. The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) 2021 annual summit will run from August 15 to 19.
Forging a stronger relationship between Alberta and the U.S., our largest trade partner, is critical as the province moves beyond the pandemic and looks to recovery and growth. This year's summit will provide an opportunity for Alberta to build on the province’s ties in the region and advance common interests spanning from economic recovery, agriculture, energy and trade to critical infrastructure, transportation, water policy and border issues.
MLA Gotfried will also have the opportunity to showcase Alberta as a prime location to live, visit, do business and invest in advance of the 2022 annual summit, which will be hosted in Calgary.

PNWER is a regional multilateral forum that brings together legislative, government and private-sector leaders from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Washington State, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska to advance policies that promote the region’s economies.
Alberta is a founding member of PNWER and continues to play an active role in this transboundary organization. Maintaining and building strong relationships with key partners is an important element of Alberta’s Recovery Plan to diversify our economy and build on our strengths.
This year’s summit is a hybrid event with attendees participating both in person and virtually.
Minister Dreeshen will be accompanied by one staff member, and MLAs Gotfried, Reid and Rowswell, by one public servant.
Alberta’s Recovery Plan is a plan to breathe new life into Alberta’s economy and create new opportunities for every Albertan. It’s a plan to build, to diversify, and to create jobs.
