“May 30 to June 5 is National AccessAbility Week – a time to celebrate the valuable contributions of people with disabilities and recognize the efforts of individuals, communities and employers working to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion in our communities.

“More than 6.2 million Canadians aged 15 and older live with some form of disability that affects their level of independence or quality of life. It’s important that we continue to work together to make our society more inclusive, accessible and welcoming to people with disabilities.

“We all benefit from a society and economy without barriers to inclusion. When people with disabilities can participate in all aspects of society – including accessing employment, resources and services – it enriches our communities and our economy.

“I encourage all Albertans to join me in wearing red on June 2 for Red Shirt Day to show your solidarity and support for making sure equal opportunities are available to everyone.

“Throughout National AccessAbility Week, we also thank the many individuals and organizations that, along with Alberta’s government, provide supports, raise awareness and create accessible and inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities.”
