The Tradesperson Credential Verification Service is part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to reducing red tape. The service gives employers streamlined, online access to verify the credentials of a skilled tradesperson or apprentice.

In 2019, the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Information Line received almost 5,000 calls requesting staff to verify individual credentials.

The Tradesperson Credential Verification Service means employers no longer need to request credential verification over the phone. Instead, they can now access this important information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“As our province’s economic recovery continues, verifying these credentials quickly and efficiently is critical for employers and job creators to make informed decisions. As labour market demand increases, this service will play an important part in helping employers verify the certification of skilled Albertans to fill jobs.”

Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Advanced Education

“The efficiency of the new online credential tool brings a level of peace of mind for the apprentice seeking work as they can take comfort in knowing that their credentials will be verified quickly. For employers, this service will be a great way to ensure they are getting the skills they need.”

Scott Papineau, apprenticeship coordinator/training instructor, Alberta Ironworkers Apprenticeship and Training Plan (Local 720)

“Like most employers, our organization has specific skill sets and needs. As part of the development team for this tool, we wanted to ensure that when receiving inquiries and applications that employers find the appropriate skill and knowledge levels that enable the tradesperson and our company to grow.”

Kerry Cahill, senior apprenticeship coordinator training services, Finning Canada

“Our industry demands a wide variety of workers and expertise. Having the ability to verify the credentials of tradespeople with a few clicks is an asset for employers like us, who need to find qualified workers quickly and efficiently.”

Paige Knysh, human resources coordinator, ClearStream Energy Services Inc
