“Alberta’s government is very pleased that the Enbridge Line 3 Replacement Project has cleared the final hurdle of its approval process, allowing construction in the United States to begin. This is a crucial milestone, particularly given the challenges the project has faced.

“The project’s approval is a win for Alberta – and for North American energy security. Canada and the U.S. have built the world’s strongest, most interdependent and trusted energy trading relationship. Alberta has, and will continue to be, a stable, secure and responsible energy supplier to the U.S. Our relationship is even more important during these uncertain times as our continued energy partnership will be critical to the continent’s post-pandemic recovery.
“With the Canada portion of the pipeline in service since last year, the completion of the U.S. portion of Line 3 is vital to our efforts.
“The $8.2-billion project will provide reliable energy, jobs and economic benefits for Canada and the United States. Replacing this almost 60-year-old pipeline will restore it to its original capacity of 760,000 barrels per day, adding about 370,000 barrels per day to Alberta’s current takeaway capacity.
“Pipelines – including Keystone XL and the Trans Mountain Expansion Project – remain integral to protecting and enhancing the value of Alberta’s resources. We will continue to fiercely advocate for their timely completion.”
