The Alberta government contributed $10 million towards the $26-million Covenant Care project, supporting the commitment to build more and safer continuing care spaces in communities most in need.

“Alberta’s government is committed to treating seniors and people with disabilities with the support and respect they deserve. Residents of St. Anne’s Haven can look forward to expert, quality care and services surrounded by loved ones in the same community where they built their lives, raised their families and made friends.”

Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health

“This facility will benefit all of Lethbridge. St. Anne’s Haven will be a safe and welcoming home where seniors and people with disabilities can get the care they need. Thank you to Covenant Care for providing thoughtful, compassionate care to our community’s seniors, people with complex needs and their families.”

Nathan Neudorf, MLA for Lethbridge-East

Situated on almost five acres in Lethbridge’s Garry Station neighbourhood, the three-storey building will feature natural light, visiting spaces, a chapel and outdoor patio and gardens. Seniors will live in small home-like groupings of 17 suites, each with its own private entry, kitchen and dining area.

Social interaction and a sense of community, as well as independence and high-quality care will be key elements of St. Anne’s Haven.

“We are grateful to government for the privilege of enhancing our service to our seniors who have built this province. St Anne’s Haven reflects a long legacy of compassionate care and our ongoing commitment to create transformative approaches to seniors care and safe, healthy and vibrant environments to work and live.”

Patrick Dumelie, CEO, Covenant Health

“St. Anne’s Haven will be a place where residents feel truly at home. They will have safe and convenient access to outdoor spaces and will be encouraged to make their own decisions – such as when they would like to eat, sleep and enjoy activities.”

Derrick Bernardo, president, Covenant Care

The facility is expected to open in spring 2022. It is named after St. Anne, the patron saint of grandparents. Together with the word haven, the name evokes acceptance, comfort and safety.

Budget 2020 includes $164 million over three years to increase the number of continuing care spaces available across the province by building on the best aspects of the Affordable Supportive Living Initiative.
