“Today, the Government of Alberta joins governments around the world in recognizing Right to Know Day.
“In Canada, Sept. 28 marks the beginning of Right to Know Week, which aims to advance and celebrate the public’s right to access information from governments.
“This year is special for Alberta. Twenty-five years ago, on Oct. 1, 1995, Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act was proclaimed. This important milestone gives us pause to remember Alberta’s first information and privacy commissioner, the late Robert C. Clark, and to celebrate his contributions not only in that role, but also his service to Albertans as a teacher, politician, community leader and volunteer.
“We also take this time to thank the many public servants across our province who have worked – and continue to work daily – to assist Albertans seeking to access government information.
"Information is key to our success in growing Alberta’s digital economy and supporting the innovative delivery of public services. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, information and privacy laws will continue to play an important role in preparing for the future while balancing the needs of citizens, business and others in the public and private sectors.”
